When you look down on people, understand they don’t look up to you.
Leadership is not about standing in the front and getting all the glory. Nor is it about pushing others to do things you (or they) don’t want to do. Leadership is about empowering people to step up and become equal. It’s a culture of inclusion. It’s about running with a pack. Not on your own.
Great leaders allow others to be great too. Don’t suppress, Impress.
There are times where a leader must demonstrate strength and values. And show how to stand up. But true leadership is when you become surrounded by others who want to be part of your movement.
Here are some key learnings in my life.
My Dad taught me to always learn. He never forced me to mandatory learn but he was always supportive when I volunteered to learn. This thought me the value of Life Long Learning…This is what Leaders do.
My Mum taught me to always back myself. Believe in myself and take the road less travelled…because that is what a Leader would do.
A close friend and colleague of mine, Terry Hamill, taught me how to build and surround myself with a team so you can run with a pack. This is what great Leaders do.
Mike Masadonio taught me that my mission in life should be to “Orchestrate Peak Life Experiences for Others…and Myself”. Ive adopted his mission…cause putting others before yourself….that is leadership, and what great Leaders do.
John Williamson taught me to always “Default Up”. Look for the good in people and understand how best to approach their need with a solution…Again, what a great leader would do.
There have been many more lessons learnt and more to report on in later blogs but in short…
Don’t follow me…come with me. Leadership is about empowerment. Giving you a platform to do great things. Allowing you to be the best you.
Great Leadership creates motion. Poor leadership creates demotion.
